1 Corinthians: Good News for an Imperfect Church

What is Paul's first letter to the Corinthians all about? What themes hold it together and help us understand its parts? How can I get the most out of it and share from it for the benefit of others?

1 Corinthians has long been viewed as a difficult book of the Bible. Hard to read, and hard to preach on, because of its multi-layered context that can be tricky to apply today. It is a long and complicated letter written to a troubled and obstinate Church.

Yet, embedded within this letter are several themes that are fundamental for our Christian faith!

Over 6 weeks in the fall, we will journey through this book together, reading larger chunks of it and reflecting on its message. In the last session, students will have the opportunity to share on a particular part that was especially meaningful for them.

This class may also continue for a second block, later in the fall.

I look forward to exploring God's word together!

Tim Stewart (D.Min, TWU) has served in pastoral ministry since 2007, and has always enjoyed extra opportunities to teach and learn with others.

After growing up in Delta, BC, he studied International Relations at UBC. He then traveled to Russia to teach English for a year, where he met his wife Emily (a fellow teacher).

Together, they served in youth ministry and continued teaching overseas until he finished his M.Div at Trinity Western. Since then, they have enjoyed raising three children while serving at very diverse churches in New Westminster and Victoria.

While serving in Victoria, Tim has enjoyed kayaking, hiking, connecting with the community, and supporting local ministry leaders through CityReach. In 2025, he completed his Doctor of Ministry at TWU. His research involved interviewing people in Victoria who have recently come to faith, and it provided fascinating results that he loves to share about.

Tim has enjoyed instructing courses at Bible College and Seminary, and is excited to explore some exciting topics with fellow learners in Victoria!
